Table Flat Trekking is located in Apiti – less than an 1 1/2 hours drive from Palmerston North or 50 minutes from Feilding in the lovely Manawatu.
We specialise in small groups of four or less who want to experience the incredible serenity that can only be found at high altitude. Treks range from 45 minutes to 3 hours and take in some incredible scenery and native bush, on our 600 acre sheep farm.
All of our horses are quiet and well trained and you will always be accompanied by an experienced handler.
We also offer a unique service of horse hire which suits larger less experienced groups, who just want the experience of a shorter ride and the experience of being around these beautiful animals.
Beginners can also book private lessons to help them gain extra confidence, but basic instructions are given to all riders.
At Table flat trekking we love the challenge of riders who have special or unique needs, all our staff and handlers are very patient and understanding to people who find it more difficult than many others to face the challenge of sitting on and riding a horse, whether the problems are physical, psychological or any other of the many problems that can face us, give us a phone call or an e-mail and we can discuss any concerns you may have. You may be surprised at just how far we are prepared to go just to make sure the thrill of sitting on a horse can be experienced by everyone – especially those who might need it the most.
This amazing area also offers great picnic spots, access to the Ruahine Forest Park for tramping and deer hunting, and while you are here drop into the limestone caves and check out the stalactites and rock formations. If you wait until after dark, the glowworms will happily put on a great light show. Definitely a great way to spend a day with the family or friends. If you want to carry your great day on into the evening, check out the friendly atmosphere and great meals at the Apiti Tavern – a real country pub.
